AI IN THE WORKPLACE
The 2023 LinkedIn Future of Work Report showed a 70% increase in AI-related discussions between December 2022 and September 2023.
These talks highlight both worries and opportunities around AI’s effect on the job market.
While some fear AI will replace jobs, 47% of professionals think it could help their careers.
Many workers are already using AI in their roles, even when not officially approved.
At the same time, 74% of executives see generative AI as helpful for employees but admit they haven’t provided enough guidance on using it safely and ethically.
From the Hubspot Blog.
Millennials and Gen Z are leading these conversations. Gen Z, in particular, is seen as highly tech-savvy and open to AI.
However, they are also more likely to have their tasks automated because of the nature of early-career roles.
Key findings from the LinkedIn report:
Top industries using AI such as professional Services, Technology, and Education are leading the way.
The U.S. has the most professionals interested in AI, ahead of countries like Germany, India, and the UK.
Roles like "Head of AI" have grown by 14%, and job ads mentioning “GPT” increased 21 times in 2023.
Execs are slow, AI is not
Some industries are more exposed to AI disruption.
Retail and tech professionals are at the highest risk, followed by workers in wholesale, financial services, and manufacturing.
Demand for AI skills is growing fast.
Companies are hiring for technical roles, like machine learning engineers, as well as non-technical positions requiring AI knowledge.
Professional Services, Financial Services, and Manufacturing industries are driving this demand.
Engineers are exploring ways AI can support their career growth, while executives focus on how it will affect their businesses in the short and long term.
Professionals are also increasingly seeking roles involving AI to stay ahead in a competitive job market.
Even though some tasks can be automated, the shift may be slower than expected.
OpenAI researchers predict that 19% of workers could see half of their tasks affected by AI.
However, a study by MIT suggests automation might take longer due to high costs and technical challenges.
AI is changing what skills are needed for jobs. LinkedIn estimates that 55% of its users’ roles (around 550 million people) will be disrupted or boosted by AI.
By 2030, more than 50% of job skill requirements will have changed, making it vital for workers to adapt and learn.
AI literacy is the new flex.
