Meta has released Muse Glimmer, a new open-weight AI model designed to run AI agents directly on consumer devices.
It offers an early look at CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of “personal superintelligence” in practice.
The 30-billion-parameter model is an open version of Meta’s more powerful Muse Spark model, launched in April.
Glimmer uses an Apache 2.0 licence, allowing developers to download, modify and build on it.
Meta says Glimmer can handle multi-step tasks including using tools, writing and debugging code, and working with files and screenshots.
It supports text and images, was trained across more than 100 languages, and can run locally on a Mac or PC with a single consumer GPU.

Meta keeps the good china upstairs
Running locally is a key part of Meta’s pitch.
Glimmer could manage schedules, draft messages and organise files while keeping more personal data on the device rather than sending it to the cloud.
It can also work without an internet connection.
The launch fits Zuckerberg’s wider goal of making advanced AI broadly accessible.
He has said AI could eventually help people with work, health, finances, relationships and creativity, while acknowledging that Meta may keep some of its most powerful models closed for safety reasons.
That split is already visible. Muse Spark remains closed-weight, while Glimmer can be downloaded, fine-tuned and run independently.
