GPT-5 makes GPT-4 look like a warm-up

OpenAI has launched GPT‑5 to all users, and it is now the default model in ChatGPT.

The full rollout won’t be complete until August 14th, if you still aren’t seeing it.

It’s quicker, sharper, and more useful across everything from coding and writing to maths, health advice, and visuals.

It runs on a unified system with three layers:

  • A fast model for everyday prompts

  • A deeper reasoning mode for harder questions

  • And a smart router that picks the right one based on what you ask

Once you hit usage limits, a lighter mini version kicks in.

What’s actually better?

GPT‑5 is far more helpful in real-world tasks.

It’s more accurate, follows instructions better, and handles:

  • Writing – From emails to poetry, it adapts to your tone and flow.

  • Coding – It can build websites and fix bugs more intuitively.

  • Health – It’s more proactive, context-aware, and safer to use (though not a replacement for a doctor).

Benchmarks show big gains across maths, science, and software tasks, especially when “thinking mode” is triggered (e.g. by saying “think hard about this”).

No room for errors

GPT‑5 is less likely to make things up, down 80% in factual errors vs older models.

It’s also more honest about what it can’t do, instead of guessing its way through a prompt.

Instead of simply refusing risky prompts, GPT‑5 is trained to answer carefully when it can, and say why when it can’t.

This helps with tricky or dual-use topics like biosecurity.

Thanks to better steerability, GPT‑5 follows instructions more closely.

It now offers optional “personalities” like Cynic, Robot, Listener, or Nerd, letting you tailor how it responds without writing custom prompts.

What’s GPT‑5 Pro?

It’s the premium version for longer, tougher questions.

Experts preferred its answers 68% of the time, especially in science, coding, and medical topics.

Free users get limited access, switching to GPT‑5 Mini after caps.

Plus/Pro users can use it by default, with Pro unlocking GPT‑5 Pro and Teams, and Enterprise get higher limits and access through tools like Codex CLI.
