The leading tech firms have agreed that governments can vet their AI tools, in a new agreement reached at the AI summit.

Companies including Meta, Google and OpenAI have agreed to allow regulators to test their latest AI products before releasing them to the public.

The move is intended to ensure no AI system gets too advanced before being available to the general public.

However, although the companies had agreed to do so, the agreement is entirely voluntary, meaning other companies may refuse to do so, and the currently agreed ones could back out at any time.

It remains to be seen then, whether these companies are acting in good faith or simply trying to look better by agreeing to do what their competitors are doing.

Actor Brian Cox (not the science professor…) says the use of AI to replicate an actor's image and use it forever is "identity theft" and should be considered "a human rights issue".

The actor, known for his starring role in Succession, said on AI:

"It doesn't keep me up at night, but I am concerned about it and I want it to be sorted. I think AI is a human rights issue. It's not just a union issue. It's actually an identity theft. And it's very, very prevalent at the moment."

Cox said he felt particularly for young actors, saying that AI may prevent them from getting into the industry, especially if already established stars become “forever actors” with AI.

He said if he was offered a sum for rights to his AI image forever, he’d tell them “to f*ck off”.
