Google is coming for the AI dictation crowd
Google has quietly launched a new iPhone app called Google AI Edge Eloquent, a free dictation tool that turns speech into cleaner, more polished text.
Once users download its speech models, the app can work directly on the phone and show a live transcript as they speak.
When they pause, it can remove filler words like “um” and “ah” and clean up the wording.
The app also includes options such as Key points, Formal, Short, and Long, so users can quickly change the transcript to match what they need.
If cloud mode is turned off, everything stays on the device.
If it is turned on, Gemini models are used to improve the text.
Users can also import names, jargon, and keywords from Gmail, or add their own custom words to help with accuracy.
Eloquent also saves past transcription sessions, makes them searchable, and shows simple stats like total words spoken and speaking speed.
Google says the app is designed to focus on what the user meant to say, instead of capturing every pause or stumble exactly as spoken.
In brief:
The app works offline once the speech models are downloaded
It can remove filler words and reshape transcripts automatically
Android support looks likely, but it has not launched yet
The yap pipeline
Right now, the app is only available on iOS, but its App Store listing also mentions Android support.
That suggests Google may be planning a wider launch, with deeper Android features like system-wide dictation and quicker access across apps.
As AI transcription tools become more common, Eloquent is Google’s latest move into a fast-growing space.
