Yesterday, we were all hyped up about Google's Gemini dropping out of the blue - a surprise twist in the AI soap opera. "Is it the ChatGPT killer?" we wonderedā¦.
Wellā¦today, we've got some... let's say, "interesting" updates, as first impressions are in of the new AI.
Struggling on the basicsā¦
So, Gemini launched, and we were ready to watch it take down ChatGPT. But instead, it's struggling to get out of the starting blocks.
Users have found that Gemini Pro, the mid-tier version of Googleās offering, is still tripping over basic facts.
Oscar winners, news summaries, translations - you name it, Gemini Pro's probably got it wrong.
Thatās not all. Google also boasted about Gemini's coding prowess, but the AI seems to struggle. Simple Python functions? Gemini says nope.
Gemini first impressions are in!
A leaky boat for AI security
Now, about those security filters. Gemini Pro has been bypassed with "jailbreak" prompts, leading to some eyebrow-raising suggestions.
For instance, when AI security researchers from Robust Intelligence tested Gemini Pro, it suggested illegal things like theft and other unethical acts. Dāoh!
Oh, and the demo was FAKE
Remember that slick Gemini demo video? Turns out it's more Hollywood than Silicon Valley.
Smooth talking and quick image recognition, all smoke and mirrors. In the YouTube video description, Google admits to a bit of video magic:
"For the purposes of this demo, latency has been reduced, and Gemini outputs have been shortened for brevity."
OUR VIEW:
Okay, itās very early days, but itās a disappointing set of first impressions. Letās see how it evolves over the coming months - donāt write Gemini off just yet.

Well, well, well, OpenAI, what have you done now? GPT Builder, launched with fanfare last month, promised us the moon. "Create your own AI," they said. "It'll be fun," they said.
But now, BBC News has caused a stir by creating the cybercriminal's dream tool.
The hackerās dreamā¦
The BBC team created an AI bot called 'Crafty Emails.'
Their mission? To see if it could churn out the digital equivalent of persuasive snake oil.
Spoiler alert: It did.
Crafty Emails was told, "Hey, write some scammy stuff." And it did. From phishing emails to SMS scams.
OpenAI's response? They're working on safety enhancements.
Itās funnyā¦ the regular ChatGPT? Oh, it's got morals. Ask it to write a scam, and itāll say , "I can't help with that."
But its custom-built cousin? āNo problem!ā.

Iām only annoyed I didnāt figure it first! Back to the GPT drawing board for me.
