GOOGLE DELAYS GEMINI AI

Google has delayed their next-generation AI model, codenamed Gemini.

The launch was supposedly due to take place this week, but has been delayed, according to a new report.

The model supposedly outperforms anything released thus far by OpenAI.

A next gen AI?

Gemini has been described as the next generation of AI and multimodal, meaning it can process multiple types of data and is said to have the capacity to understand and generate text and images as well other types of content.

This is truly Google’s answer to OpenAI’s all-singing and dancing ChatGPT.

Gemini has been said to strongly outperform OpenAI's GPT-4 as it harnesses vastly more computing power than its competitor - whether that will be true in practice, I guess we will have to see!

Google to OpenAI after Gemini launches?

When’s it coming out?

Rumour has it, that it has been quietly rescheduled for early 2024 over concerns the AI wasn't reliably up to snuff when responding to some non-English prompts and inquiries.

January launch, please.

OUR VIEW:

Could Gemini be the ChatGPT killer? It really sounds like it might be, based on these reports. Exciting times!

🚆 AI COMES TO LONDON UNDERGROUND

AI is to be deployed on the London Undergound, in an attempt to tackle fare-dodgers.

an AI that can identify passengers likely to jump ticket barriers has been tested at Willesden Green station, on the Jubilee line.

Transport for London now plans to expand the trial after successfully linking the AI software with its network of station cameras.

Tackling a big problem

While this sounds suitably dystopian, fare dodging costs Transport for London a whopping £130M a year, with 1 in 25 journeys being upaid.

The AI draws on all of the chemicals detected in the wine to work out the most reliable signature for each.

The project at Willesden Green used AI algorithms and motion detection to “detect the act of fare evasion” – passengers passing through barriers without paying.

OUR VIEW:

Hmm… this is the future, but I don’t like it. This is why we can’t have nice things.
