Gemini’s got a memory now. Are you ready for that?

Google is updating Gemini so it can automatically “remember” your past chats and preferences.

The idea is to make suggestions without you having to remind it, like following up a past conversation about Japanese culture with ideas for trying Japanese food.

The feature will be on by default, but can be switched off in:

Settings → Personal Context → Your past chats with Gemini.

It’s rolling out now for Gemini 2.5 Pro in select countries, with Gemini 2.5 Flash coming later.

Google is also changing privacy controls.

From September 2nd, Gemini Apps Activity becomes Keep Activity, allowing a sample of your uploads to be used to improve services if you enable it.

Here’s what you should know:

  • Gemini will remember chats automatically, but you can turn it off.

  • “Keep Activity” replaces “Gemini Apps Activity” from September 2nd.

  • Temporary chats stay private and vanish after 72 hours.

A new temporary chats option will delete certain conversations after 72 hours and keep them out of personalisation and training.

Cool, amazing, perfect… but what if Gemini remembers the time I accidentally asked it how to boil water?
