🚑 AI SLASHES CANCER TREATMENT TIMES
It seems like AI healthcare stories are all the rage at the moment, and today is no different! An AI system which cuts the wait times in half for cancer treatment is to be rolled out across the NHS.
The system was trained to spot cancerous cells and helps doctors calculate where to direct the therapeutic radiation beams, which kill cancerous cells while sparing as many healthy ones as possible.
Currently, doctors spend between 25 minutes and 2 hours painstakingly reviewing 100 scan cross-sections to decide on the best course of treatment. The new system is 150% faster and makes far fewer mistakes.
Being non-human, it also never gets distracted, never gets bored and never stops working. Sounds like me in a job interview.

💥 EU TO OPEN AI “CRASH TEST” CENTRES
The EU is to launch AI “crash test” centres, where AI systems can be tested for safety before they reach the market.
The trade bloc launched four permanent testing facilities across Europe on this week, having injected $240 million into the project. The facilities will, from next year, give AI and robotics experimenters a place to test their inventions.
AI innovators are expected to bring “trustworthy” AI to the market, and these facilities will help enable that.
This comes alongside the draft legislation recently passed by the EU, introducing the world’s first AI regulations.
It looks like the EU wants to stay well on top of AI, and investments like this are sure to please AI companies looking for state support for their projects.
A bit like this but for AI.
