AI SPORTS

ESPN is testing a new AI-generated avatar called FACTS on the Saturday college football show, SEC Nation.

Designed to make sports analytics more engaging and enjoyable, FACTS uses data from ESPN Analytics, including the Football Power Index (FPI), player and team stats, and game schedules.

Though still in development, FACTS is part of ESPN’s broader push into AI innovation, which already includes AI-written game recaps on its website.

Here’s what you should know:

  • FACTS aims to make sports analytics fun and easy to understand for fans.

  • The AI is powered by Nvidia’s Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE), Azure OpenAI, and ElevenLabs text-to-speech tools.

  • ESPN has stated FACTS is not intended to replace journalists but to experiment with fan engagement.

A stat-tastic evolution

FACTS runs on advanced technologies, combining Nvidia’s ACE for avatar functionality, Azure OpenAI for language processing, and ElevenLabs for lifelike voice output.

Announced at the ESPN Edge Innovation Conference, the network emphasised that FACTS is not replacing on-air talent.

Instead, it is an experiment to showcase ESPN Analytics in a fresh, fan-friendly format.

The launch date is still unconfirmed, so keep your eyes peeled.

ESPN out here dropping pure FACTS.

RABBIT R1

The Rabbit R1 now lets users personalise its interface with AI.

You can create completely new designs with prompts, with examples including a Legend of Zelda theme, a retro Windows XP style, or a dark green scanline look - whatever you can imagine.

To try, log into your RabbitHole account, go to settings, select “profile,” and enable “generative UI.”

Enter a prompt, like “Design a high-quality autumn-inspired UI,” and hit “customise” to see your new look.

In brief:

  • The generative UI feature allows users to redesign the interface with prompts.

  • A recent update introduced the Large Action Model (LAM) Playground for handling tasks on sites like Amazon and Google.

  • Reviews are mixed: improvements are noted, but slow response times (over 30 seconds) remain a drawback.

Wait time that tests patience

Since its challenging launch in May, Rabbit has worked to improve the $199 device with several updates.

The latest addition, the LAM Playground, allows the R1 to perform online tasks.

Whole CNET praised the improvements, but it still recommends a smartphone for most users.

Android Authority, however, remained unimpressed.

Though the generative UI is a fun feature, Rabbit suggests turning it off if speed is a priority, as it’s slower than the default interface.

Is this the first cool feature on this thing?
