ELON VS ALTMAN

Elon’s feud with Sam Altman just went nuclear

Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI is suing OpenAI and Apple, accusing them of working together to block competition.

The lawsuit, filed in Texas, claims the two formed “a conspiracy to monopolise” both smartphones and AI chatbots.

At the heart of it is Apple’s deal with OpenAI, announced last year, which brought ChatGPT into Apple’s systems.

Musk argues the partnership “locks up markets,” giving OpenAI an unfair edge, and is seeking to undo the deal while claiming billions in damages.

Here’s what you should know:

  • xAI alleges Apple and OpenAI struck an unlawful deal limiting AI competition.

  • The lawsuit seeks billions in damages and challenges Apple’s OpenAI integration.

  • OpenAI’s $500bn target would make it the world’s most valuable private company.

Who runs AI now?

OpenAI dismissed the claims as part of Musk’s “ongoing pattern of harassment,” while Apple hasn’t responded.

The case adds to the long-running Musk–Altman feud, dating back to Musk’s exit from OpenAI in 2018 after failing to take control.

OpenAI is also reportedly aiming for a $500bn valuation, overtaking Musk’s SpaceX, currently valued at $350bn.

Not the billionaire breakup tour entering season 3.
