Duolingo has competition, and it speaks Gemini
Google is coming out with an AI-powered language learning feature in its Translate app.
The beta feature builds custom lessons based on your skill level and why you’re learning, whether for travel, work, or everyday chats.
For now, English speakers can practise Spanish and French, while Spanish, French, and Portuguese speakers can work on English.
Tap the new Practice button, set your level, pick a goal, or choose from preset scenarios.
Here’s what you should know:
AI-powered lessons personalised to your goals
Live translation supports 70+ languages
Beta rollout focused on select regions
Duolingo’s side-eye intensifies
Google’s Gemini AI then creates a tailored lesson, letting you practise speaking, listen to dialogues, or tap words you recognise.
Google’s also added a live translation tool for real-time conversations, supporting over 70 languages.
It’s available in the US, India, and Mexico, with wider access expected soon.
