🇨🇳 CHINA COULD BE BANNED FROM AI SUMMIT!

The UK is hosting a groundbreaking AI summit in November… But China may have just been disinvited!

Rishi Sunak is considering banning Chinese officials from half of his artificial intelligence safety summit in November, amid growing concern over widespread spying by Beijing on Western governments.

Downing Street had already invited the Chinese, leading to criticism at the time, and now it looks like that invite may be rescinded, after recent revelations about Chinese spies infiltrating British parliament.

China getting thrown out of the AI summit.

Now, Chinese officials might only be allowed to attend the first day of the two-day summit in part because of concern over their spying activities.

It’s shaping up to be an interesting summit, with Joe Biden already confirmed he won’t go and instead will be represented by VP Kamala Harris… is the summit lining up to be an anti-climax already?

💊 AI CAN DETECT PARKINSON’S!

Another mind-boggling AI medical breakthrough for ya!

AI has been able to detect Parkinson’s disease, as well as eye diseases, from analysing retinal images.

This is not the first tool that scans these images, but what makes the new tool — called RETFound — special is that it was developed using a method known as self-supervised learning.

That means that the researchers did not have to analyse each of the 1.6 million retinal images used for training, it “taught itself” instead.

The AI performed well at detecting eye diseases - on a scale where 0.5 represents a model that performs no better than a random prediction and 1 represents a perfect model that makes an accurate prediction each time, it scored between 0.822 and 0.943 for diabetic retinopathy - impressive results.

When predicting the risk for systemic diseases - such as heart attacks, heart failure, stroke and Parkinson’s - the overall performance was limited, but still superior to that of other AI models - showing huge potential for the future.
