ChatGPT's got a new party trick

OpenAI has launched GPT-6 in ChatGPT, introducing faster responses and a new feature called Intelligent UI to change how its 1.2 billion weekly users interact with the chatbot.

Intelligent UI allows ChatGPT to create interactive answers using charts, maps, diagrams, buttons and custom tools directly within conversations.

For example, users can adjust a shopping list based on how many guests they're hosting, explore complex topics through interactive visuals or create a calculator without leaving the chat.

Rather than giving every question the same text-based response, GPT-6 can now decide which format works best.

OpenAI says it trained the model to organise information, choose when interactive features would be useful and recognise when a straightforward answer is enough.

GPT-6 also introduces a change to how ChatGPT responds. Previously, users had to wait for reasoning models to finish thinking before receiving an answer.

Now, ChatGPT can start responding while it continues working, gradually adding information as it goes.

OpenAI also highlighted several improvements:

  • GPT-6 Instant starts answering questions requiring web searches 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant, according to OpenAI's internal measurements.

  • Internal tests show GPT-6 performs better on difficult web searches, with improvements in finding relevant information and addressing users' questions.

  • OpenAI reports better protection against harmful requests, improved resistance to attempts to bypass safeguards and clearer communication about what the model can and cannot do.

Pimp My Prompt

GPT-6 with Intelligent UI begins rolling out globally to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users today, followed by Free and Go users tomorrow.

The update applies to regular ChatGPT conversations, while the models powering Work and Codex remain unchanged.
