OPENAI
OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT now has over 200 million weekly users, a significant increase from the 100 million reported last November.
This growth is reflected in the widespread adoption of OpenAI’s product, with 92% of Fortune 500 companies now using their technology.
The introduction of the more affordable GPT-4o Mini has also led to a rise in API usage.
The big numbers:
ChatGPT’s weekly active users have doubled to 200 million.

Meta’s AI assistant has 185 million weekly users.
Breaking records like it’s no big deal
Meanwhile, major tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Meta have launched their own AI chat tools.
Meta’s AI assistant has already reached 400 million monthly and 185 million weekly active users, even though it’s not yet available in the UK, Brazil, or the EU.
In other news, the US AI Safety Institute has announced that OpenAI and Anthropic will allow government evaluation of their major AI models before they are released to the public.
Additionally, there are reports that Apple and Nvidia could be potential investors in OpenAI’s funding round.

AI cameras in Devon and Cornwall have detected over 2,000 seat belt violations, including unrestrained children, between July and August 2024.
The cameras automatically spot offences, raising concerns among road safety officials.
Adrian Leisk, head of road safety for Devon and Cornwall Police, called the situation "truly alarming," particularly with children involved.
He suggested adding penalty points to seat belt fines to stress the importance of safety.
