APPLE
Apple is set to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its products this December with the iOS 18.2 update.
This update will upgrade Siri’s abilities with Smarter AI, and Apple users will be able to subscribe directly to ChatGPT Plus via the Settings app for $20 a month.
ChatGPT Plus gives users access to OpenAI’s latest models, extra daily image creations with DALL-E, and features like Advanced Voice Mode.
The main question in this partnership is how Apple and OpenAI plan to benefit financially.
Apple isn’t directly paying OpenAI for integration; instead, OpenAI gains visibility on Apple’s platform, aiming to drive subscriptions for ChatGPT Plus.
However, if more users stick to the free version, OpenAI could face higher costs without guaranteed revenue.
In brief:
iOS 18.2 will feature a ChatGPT Plus option in Settings for $20/month.
OpenAI gains visibility through Apple, hoping to drive ChatGPT Plus sign-ups.
Apple is open to adding other AI models, showing this isn’t an exclusive deal.
Like a personality boost
While this integration brings ChatGPT to Apple devices, Apple has made it clear it will work with other AI models, possibly including Google’s Gemini.
Meanwhile, OpenAI faces internal changes, including recent fundraising efforts and key departures.
Apple opted out of a recent $6.6 billion round following the sudden exit of OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati.
If ChatGPT can teach Siri to listen and not interrupt me mid-sentence, that’d be great.

AMAZON
Amazon has restarted its drone delivery service, now available to some customers in Phoenix Arizona.
After pausing Prime Air in California, this service now lets customers in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area order items like household, tech health, and beauty products weighing five pounds or less.
Delivery comes within an hour, direct from a take-off site in Tolleson, Arizona, with customers choosing the delivery spot at their address during checkout.
Sky service, anyone?
Amazon uses its latest MK30 drone, approved by the Federal Aviation Administration to fly beyond the line of sight of its operators.
The service operates only in daylight and good weather, so there are no deliveries at night or during heavy rain or wind.
In addition to Phoenix, Amazon is testing the MK30 drone in College Station, Texas, focusing on prescription deliveries.
Amazon’s drone program has faced some setbacks, including noise concerns, regulatory issues, and recent budget cuts by CEO Andy Jazzy.
Now, Amazon is merging drone deliveries into its same-day network rather than creating separate drone facilities.
What you should know:
The current service areas are Phoenix, Arizona, with trials in Texas for prescriptions.
There are some limitations which are daylight hours, good weather, and items under five pounds.
Amazon previously aimed to bring drone delivery to the U.K. and Italy by late 2024.
There were no updates on other expansions.
The drones don’t work in rain… and they’re planning to launch in the UK. Anybody else seeing the problem here?
