+ Microsoft bug causes global chaos!
The number 911 was chosen because it was short, easy to remember, and had not been designated for any office code, area code, or service code, making it simple to implement nationwide. Additionally, the number "1" in the middle made it a unique code, as no valid area codes in North America have a middle digit of "1".

OPENAI
OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o Mini, a lighter and cheaper model for developers.
It offers more capabilities than GPT-3.5 at a significantly lower cost.
High costs have previously deterred many developers from using OpenAI’s models, pushing them towards cheaper alternatives like Google’s Gemini 1.5 Flash or Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku.
With GPT-4o Mini, OpenAI aims to make AI more accessible.
Oliver Godement, API platform product lead at OpenAI, stated, “GPT-4o Mini aligns with OpenAI’s mission to make AI affordable and accessible to everyone.”
From today, users on Free, Plus, and Team plans can access GPT-4o Minim with Enterprise users getting access next week.
GPT-Turbo will be phased out for ChatGPT users but remain available via the API until further notice.
Here’s what’s happening:
GPT-4o Mini costs less and is more capable than GPT-3.5.
Available immediately for Free, Plus and Team users; Entreprise access next week.
Supports text and vision, with plans for multimodal inputs and outputs.
Smaller, cheaper, better?
The new model supports text and vision in the API, with plans to handle multimodal inputs the outputs soon.
Although GPT-4o Mini is designed for simple tasks, it holds promise for more sophisticated applications in the future.
GPT-4o Mini scored 82% on the Measuring Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) benchmark, compared to GPT-3.5’s 70% and GPT-4o’s 88.7%.
While benchmark tests like MMLU can be inconsistent, they provide a useful comparison of model capabilities.
Developers can now build AI applications more affordably with GPT-4o Mini.
Financial tech startup Ramp and email client Superhuman have already tested the model, creating tools for expense data extraction and email auto-suggestions, respectively.
OpenAI’s focus has shifted to meet the demand for smaller, more affordable models.
Godement anticipates that GPT-4o Mini will be popular among developers previously deterred by high costs.
We can’t help but think of Austin Powers, groovy baby!
