😮 IS THE CHATGPT HYPE OVER?

AI came in extremely hot last November. ChatGPT exploded and we were all smitten. But, is the AI-hype wearing off now?

It seems that the AI hype in general is cooling, for the general consumer anyway. AI isn’t going anywhere. But maybe consumer-facing AI won’t stick around in the way we think it might.

The new AI-powered Bing search hasn’t affected Google’s market share. In fact, the change in users before and after Bing added its much hyped AI, has been almost imperceptible.

Everyone’s least favourite search engine?

ChatGPT is losing users for the first time, and the bots are still prone to errors that have put users off - with some even saying that ChatGPT 4.0 is worse at some things than the previous version.

Downloads of the ChatGPT iPhone app have fallen off as well. Hype over?

Award-winning crime writer Ajay Chowdhury loves AI.

Most authors have come out against AI for writing - with more than 100,000 having endorsed an open letter by America's Authors Guild, which has demanded AI's development show "respect for human creators and copyright".

Ajay on the other hand, says it will allow him to reach new heights. Finally, a different perspective!

"There's a lot of fear around it for a writer - but I don't believe it is going to replace us," he says.

"I started experimenting with AI in writing six or seven months ago, and it was of course slightly scary. It's like having a fantastic editor on demand."

Chowdhury isn’t like most authors though - he was a co-founder of Shazam, which sold to Apple for $400M. He truly knows his tech, and that means he’s been first in line to try out new AI tools.

He even used an image generator, Midjourney, to visualise a dramatic chase scene in one of his novels.
