Sharks are older than you think. They’ve been skulking the oceans for over 400 million years. To put that into context, that means they’ve existed for longer than trees! Some species have barely changed for millions of years.

  • GPT-4 gets a hot new update.

CHATGPT

OpenAI has upgraded its ChatGPT, specifically the GPT-4 Turbo model, upgrading its writing, math, logical reasoning, and coding skills.

This update, available since April 9 to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise, builds on the January release and aims to make conversations with the AI more natural and human-like.

The new version offers sharper and more concise responses.

For example, an AI-generated reply to a dinner invite is now much shorter and to the point. These changes bring several key improvements:

  • Improved abilities in writing, math, reasoning, and coding, making the AI more effective and smarter.

  • Clearer and more straightforward responses, enhancing communication.

  • Updated training data now includes information until December 2023, helping the AI discuss recent topics accurately.

Say bye to hallucinations

Additionally, the update broadens the information base ChatGPT uses, incorporating data up to December 2023.

This ensures the AI can effectively cover fresh topics, such as the latest iPhone 15 launch.

Testing across different AI versions shows that this latest model is more adept at managing current information, though it still can't offer the nuanced insights you'd get from hands-on product reviews.

ADOBE

Adobe Inc. introduced its Firefly image-generating AI last year, positioning it as a secure and ethical option in the generative AI market.

It was promoted as relying primarily on Adobe Stock images, which are legally licensed or in the public domain, making it a safer choice for users concerned about copyright issues.

However, it has emerged that Adobe also used AI-generated images from other sources, including competitors, to train Firefly.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Firefly was promoted as using solely Adobe Stock and public domain images, but also included competitor-generated content.

  • About 5% of Firefly’s training images were AI-generated, moderated to ensure they do not infringe on intellectual property or include sensitive content.

  • Adobe faces internal and external calls for greater transparency in how it trains its AI tools.

This inclusion of about 5% competitor-generated images in the training set has stirred debate within the company about the ethics of such practices.

Shady act?

Some employees suggest moving away from using generated images, although there are no immediate plans to change this approach.

Adobe maintains that all images undergo strict moderation to avoid legal and ethical issues.

Despite Adobe’s claims of ethical practices, the revelation that it used competitor-generated images has been criticized for not being more transparent about its training methods.

It’s not so “ethical” after all?
