There are two new versions:
GPT-5.1 Instant: quicker, more natural, and better at following what you ask. It can now decide when to “think” longer for complex questions and when to answer fast for simple ones.
GPT-5.1 Thinking: built for deeper reasoning. It adapts its response time depending on how difficult the question is, giving clearer and more complete answers.
Both models sound more natural and make fewer mistakes.
They also let you shape ChatGPT’s tone more easily.
Users can now pick from preset styles like Professional, Friendly, Candid, Quirky, Efficient, Nerdy, or Cynical, or fine-tune things like warmth, length, and emoji use.
