Sloths can take up to a month to digest food. Their slow metabolism means one meal can last a ridiculously long time. It’s like the ultimate food coma.

  • Microsoft is going nuclear… literally.

  • Around the web: 23andMe’s board all quit at once, yikes.

  • Explain it once, and get AI to do the rest with Guidde.

AI VIDEO

YouTube just dropped some major new AI features including generative AI for shorts. Now even you can be a star - by creating shorts with AI. That’s what YouTube wants you to think anyway.

Coming first is Dream Screen, powered by Google DeepMind’s Veo, to generate video backgrounds.

In 2025, you will be able to use the new tool to generate 6-second video clips that can merge into existing content to create more engaging videos.

Here’s what you should know:

  • YouTube is integrating AI tools for creators.

  • Coming first is a background generator, followed by an AI Shorts tool.

  • Videos will be watermarked to easily identify AI content.

Will it ruin my feed?

Hopefully not. YouTube says all AI videos will be watermarked, making it easy to see when the tool has been used.

Some people are already showing concerns that this is going to lead to YouTube shorts being stuffed full of low-quality AI content. But have faith in the algorithm my friends, which will hopefully hide all that bad stuff.

But that’s not all - an “inspiration” tab is coming to YouTube Studio, which will help creators by suggesting ideas, thumbnails and outlines.

MICROSOFT

Microsoft is turning to nuclear power to feed its demand for new data centres and AI.

The Three Mile Island nuclear plant is reportedly reopening, and being sold to the tech giant.

Does that name sound familiar? It might be because it was the site of the worst nuclear incident on US soil.

That sounds bad, but no one actually got hurt - there was a meltdown in 1979 which released a lot of radioactive material into the air.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Microsoft is bringing a nuclear power plant out of retirement.

  • It was the site of the worst nuclear incident on US soil, though nobody got hurt.

  • Although nuclear is carbon-free, it comes with other risks which some believe are just as problematic.

A short retirement

The plant was retired in 2019 due to operating losses, but now looks set to start running again in 2028.

The power will be used to fuel Microsoft’s power-hungry data centres (which include AI number-crunching).

As nuclear is carbon-free, Microsoft can claim it is using a carbon-neutral form of energy. Though Greenpeace won’t be thrilled.

Two steps forward, one step back?
