META

Meta has admitted to high error rates in its content moderation practices.

Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, said these errors often remove harmless content, stopping people from freely expressing themselves.

Clegg explained that no platform can get moderation right all the time, but Meta is working to improve.

One update is the introduction of political content controls on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.

These controls let users choose how much political content they see - I’ll turn that knob down to 0, please.

The feature has already launched in the U.S. and is being rolled out globally.

How it works:

  • Users can adjust how much political content appears on their feeds.

  • The controls started in the U.S. and are being introduced in other countries.

  • The aim is to let users customise their experience.

Oops, they did it again

Clegg also admitted that Meta’s approach during the pandemic was too strict.

The company removed large amounts of COVID-19-related content, which many users felt was unfair.

Meta is now reviewing its policies to prevent similar issues in the future.

Separately, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he regrets not standing up to government pressure during the pandemic.

He promised that Meta would push back if similar situations arise again.

Those feeds are gonna be real empty, right?
