AI IN GAMING

AI is reshaping many industries, and the gaming industry is one where the changes will be felt particularly strongly.

While there’s controversy about AI usage in areas such as music and comics due to copyright worries, it’s proving to be transformative for a lot of gaming companies.

AI has been part of the gaming family for years—Sony’s AI technology even outperformed top players in the PlayStation game Gran Turismo back in 2020.

But the real changes are happening now, with AI cutting down the big budgets that game development has needed in recent years.

Essentially, gamers want realistic visuals and immersive experiences, which has always required a lot of time and a big budget.

These AAA games can now be developed with the same high-end production, at a lower cost, with AI.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • AI is significantly reducing the time and cost of game development.

  • Chinese gaming companies are leading the way in using AI to improve game production and development.

  • Faster game releases are reducing financial risks for developers and increasing variety in the market.

Cutting costs, not corners

Chinese gaming companies like Tencent and NetEase are leading this shift, using Gen AI to simplify the creation process.

This technology pushes animation production, 3D scene creation, and even gaming testing and mission design.

The results are faster, cheaper game releases, that allow developers to focus more on other aspects such as storytelling, character development, and world-building — areas where AI still can’t compete with human skills.

China’s gaming market is thriving with $40bn in revenue.

Tencent’s Dungeons and Fighter Mobile continue to dominate, increasing their shares by over a quarter this year.

This AI-driven growth is encouraging news for both investors and gamers in the industry.

All serious talk aside, can we have Sims 5 featuring robot butlers?

AI STARTUPS

Swiss tech firm FinalSpark has launched a new program where scientists can rent "biocomputers" made from human brain cells for $500 a month.

These biocomputers, called organoids, offer a low-energy, highly efficient way to develop AI models.

FinalSpark says this approach could be up to 100,000 times more efficient than using traditional silicon-based systems.

Here’s what you should know:

  • FinalSpark is the only company offering online biocomputers made from human brain cells.

  • AI models on organoids are trained using brain-specific methods, like dopamine for positive feedback.

  • These biocomputers work for up to 100 days, with future potential for use in blockchain technology.

Sounds SciFi, but it’s not

FinalSpark’s founder, Fred Jordan, points out that Neurospark is the only company offering this organic computing tech.

This innovation could change the way we train AI, making it more sustainable and possibly closer to human experiences.
