TODAY IN MINDSTREAM:

Around half of all adults under 30 have used a dating site or app, but half of those users report their experience as being negative because of empty conversations, few matches and endless swiping.

Enter Artificial Intelligence. It is slowly infiltrating the dating app space - Established players in the online dating business like Tinder and Hinge are integrating AI into their existing products.

But some new apps like Blush, Aimm, Rizz and Teaser AI offer completely new takes on virtual courtship. Some use personality tests and analysis of a user’s physical type to train AI-powered systems – and promise higher chances of finding a perfect match.

So, can AI make dating apps better? Or will AI just muddy the waters even more?

A March study by cybersecurity and digital privacy company Kaspersky found 75% of dating app users are willing to use ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, to deliver the perfect line.

How depressing is that? Maybe AI will disrupt dating apps so badly that an entirely new system - like meeting people in person! Could drive them to obsoleteness?

AI Superpowers by Kai-Fu Lee examines the AI arms race between China and the United States, discussing its economic and societal impacts while highlighting the potential job market transformations that artificial intelligence will lead to globally.

In nicer news, AI has led to a real breakthrough when it comes to tracking wildlife in Britain and could solve the country’s biodiversity issues.

Remote cameras and microphones are excellent for recording data, and when combined with AI, create a rich picture of exactly what wildlife numbers are in a given region.

For example - dozens of different birds were recognised from their songs while foxes, deer, hedgehogs and bats were pinpointed and identified by AI analysis. No human observers are involved.

While humans are capable of this identification, what AI delivers is scale. It can analyse thousands and thousands of hours with ease and deliver results even more accurately than humans.

Good news for Hedgehogs!
