🚨 DAY 1 OF THE AI SUMMIT
It’s finally here! The big AI summit is taking place right now in the UK! And the news is BIG!… And soon I’m going to have to find something else to report on!

Me realising I need to find a different news topic after this week
So what happened on day 1? A BIG agreement was signed. 28 countries including the UK, US, EU, Australia and China have all agreed that artificial intelligence poses a potentially catastrophic risk to humanity, in what is the first-ever international declaration to deal with AI.
The countries agreed to work together on AI safety research, even amid signs that the US and UK are competing to take the lead over developing new regulations.
The declaration was in regards to “Frontier AI”, which refers to the most cutting-edge models and AI systems, which are believed to hold the biggest risk.
Elon Musk for example, warned: “For the first time, we have a situation where there’s something that is going to be far smarter than the smartest human … it’s not clear to me we can actually control such a thing.”
Interestingly, both US commerce secretary, Gina Raimondo, and the Chinese vice-minister of science and technology, Wu Zhaohui, appeared together on stage, in a rare display of agreement between the countries.
More coverage tomorrow of the second and final day of the summit!

Loss function
A loss function serves as a measure of how accurate an AI model’s predictions are, and are used to understand the model's performance.
If the model's prediction is far from the actual output, the loss function will output a higher value. If the prediction is close to the output, the loss function will return a lower value.

🤔 WHY DO WOMEN USE AI LESS?
Everyone is using AI… right? While ChatGPT has exploded to more than 180 million users, you might be surprised to learn that while 54% of men now use AI in either their professional or personal lives, just 35% of women say the same.
This begs the obvious question - why do women use AI less? Dive into more statistics, and the reason becomes a little clearer.
STEM subject jobs are much more likely to use AI, and women represent just 24% of these positions. Some also feel that AI is “marketed” towards men, with a link to science fiction again more likely to pique male interest.
Psychologist Lee Chambers says that typically female thinking and behaviour may be holding some women back from embracing AI.
"It's the confidence gap - women tend to want to have a high level of competence in something before they start using it, " he says. "Whereas men tend to be happy to go into something without much competence."
It will be interesting to see if these numbers even out as AI becomes heavily ingrained into our lives.
Do you think AI will be used by men and women equally in the future?
