Could the humble honeybee be the key to even better AI? Researchers in Sheffield certainly think so. The Yorkshire scientists are trying to harness the power of bee brains and apply their research to artificial intelligence.
Honeybees are apparently exceptional at fast decision-making, despite having a brain the size of a sesame seed. They are amongst the best navigators in the natural world, even though they are tiny.
Study leader Dr HaDi MaBouDi said the aim was to develop skilled machines "that can think like bees".
"We can now use these to design better, more robust and risk-averse robots and autonomous machines that can think like bees - some of the most efficient navigators in the natural world."
On the other side of things, could we see AI robot bees solve the bee population crisis?

Midjourney has added a new characteristic - weirdness. You can now specify how weird you want your image to be between 0 and 3000. Try it, you weirdo!
💻 AI CEO SAYS NO HUMAN CODERS IN 5 YEARS
The CEO of AI company Stability AI says that AI will completely replace the profession of coding within 5 years. Stability is the company behind the popular and open-source image generator Stable Diffusion, which users can run locally if their computer is powerful (expensive) enough.
It’s a bold claim but not one that seems too far out of the realms of possibility, after all, coders collectively sh*t themselves when they saw how good ChatGPT was at coding when it went public.
Data from GitHub suggests that already, a staggering 41% of new code is AI-generated. Truly insane numbers that further back up Emad Mostaque’s claim.
It wasn’t the only prediction he made, also claiming that we will have ChatGPT on our phones without an internet connection required as soon as next year (yes please).
So, will a career in coding, which only a few years ago was seen as a surefire way to make complete bank, become extinct?
