Apple has been reluctant to talk about AI thus far. So what are they getting up to behind the scenes?

A new report from Bloomberg shines some light on that for us.

Apple executives were caught off guard by the industry’s sudden AI fever and have been scrambling since late last year to make up for lost time.

For starters, Siri is being updated with AI in a way that will deeply implement it. This smarter version of Siri could be ready as soon as next year.

Apple’s software engineering group, meanwhile, is adding AI to the next version of iOS. The new features should improve how both Siri and the Messages app can field questions and auto-complete sentences.

Another team is examining how generative AI can be used to help people write in apps like Pages or auto-create slide decks in Keynote. Again, this is similar to what Microsoft has already launched for its Word and PowerPoint apps.

What is still unknown is how the company will deploy generative AI. Whether it will be a completely on-device experience, a cloud-based setup or something in between - it hasn’t been decided.

So Apple are racing to catch up on AI. Can they knock it out of the park?

The US gov has come down hard on Nvidia by suddenly stopping their trade with China much earlier than planned.

Nvidia says it has told it to stop shipping some of its advanced artificial intelligence chips to China immediately.

The restrictions were supposed to be introduced 30 days from 17 October, but clearly, they have decided an immediate stop was needed.

The new restrictions prevent exports of Nvidia's advanced AI chips, including the new type which had been specially designed for the Chinese market to comply with previous export regulations.

The acceleration of the introduction of the US curbs is the latest move in the ongoing technology dispute between Washington and Beijing.
