APPLE
Apple is set to launch the iPhone 16 later today with the new A18 chip, built on Arm’s V9 architecture, driving its push for more AI features.
The A18 chip boosts performance, while Apple has already used the V9 architecture in its latest M4 MacBooks.
Apple’s AI focus, known as “Apple Intelligence”, includes a smarter Siri, custom emojis, photo editing, and secure data handling with “Private Cloud Compute.”
It is also rumoured users will get free access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
What you should know:
The iPhone 16’s A18 chip uses Arm’s V9 architecture, improving AI capabilities.
"Apple Intelligence" features smarter Siri, custom emojis, and secure data processing.
Arm's V9 design is already in Apple’s M4 MacBooks and increases its royalty earnings.
Still fits in your pocket
The A18 chip is essential for advanced AI features, which will only be available on the iPhone 16.
It is unknown whether Apple will follow suit on last year, where only the top-end pro models got the latest chip, with the non-pros getting the previous generation.
This means that Apple Intelligence will run on an iPhone 15 Pro, but not a base iPhone 15. There has been debate as to whether this is an artificial limitation.
Arm benefits from the ongoing collaboration, with shares up 70% this year.
The iPhone 16 launch will detail the phased rollout of these features across regions and languages.
Apple is also testing iOS 18.1, which will bring the full suite of these AI features to users.

AI STARTUPS
All Hands AI recently raised $5 million in seed funding led by Menlo Ventures.
The plan is to build open-source AI agents that act as pair programmers, helping with day-to-day tasks and prompting developers to make adjustments where needed.
Unlike closed-source competitors like Cognition AI’s Devin, All Hands AI promotes an open-source approach, allowing full access and collaboration.
Here’s what’s happening:
$5 million seed funding secured to develop open-source AI agents.
AI handles routine tasks, letting developers focus on creative work.
Enterprise features will support the open-source project.
No more gatekeeping
Started as OpenDevin and now called OpenHands, the project has grown to over 30,000 stars and 150 contributors on GitHub.
The aim is for AI to work alongside developers to streamline tasks like testing and deployment.
While tools like Copilot are helpful, All Hands AI aims to cover the full cycle of writing code.
There are still challenges, but future integrations with editors like VS Code are planned.
Enterprise-level features? Translation: big companies are gonna be throwing cash to get their hands on this tech.
The company will eventually monetise through paid enterprise features while keeping the core open-source.
No more gatekeeping – open-source for the win!
