Apple has signed a voluntary commitment with the White House to ensure the development of safe, secure and trustworthy AI.
Soon, Apple will integrate its generative AI, Apple Intelligence, into its core products, making it accessible to 2 billion users.
Joining 15 other tech companies, such as Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft, Apple has pledged to follow the While House’s guidelines for generative AI.
Initially, Apple hadn’t disclosed the extent of its AI integration into iOS.
However, at WWDC in June, Apple announced its significant AI focus, including a partnership to embed ChatGPT in the iPhone.
Apple aims to demonstrate compliance with the White House’s rule to potentially ease future regulatory challenges.
While these commitments are a preliminary step, they signify a move towards developing safe and secure AI.
The White House sees this as the “first step” followed by President Biden’s AI executive order in October and pending legislation to regulate AI.
Here’s what they’re going to do:
Stress test AI models before public release and share the findings.
Keep AI model weights confidential, limiting access.
Develop systems like watermarking to identify AI-generated content.
Additionally, the Department of Commerce will release a report on open-source AI models, addressing the balance between accessibility and safety.
The White House’s stance on this issue could significantly influence the AI industry.
Federal agencies have also made strides following the October executive order, with over 200 AI-related hires, 80 research teams gaining computational resources, and several AI development frameworks released.
Knowing Apple, they’ll probably create holographic displays of the founding fathers at the White House next.

Elon Musk’s X platform is under fire from UK and Irish data regulators.
The issue? Users are unknowingly consenting to their posts being used to train AI systems, thanks to a default app setting.
An X user figured out that the app’s settings, turned on by default, allowed user posts to be used for training Grok, the AI chatbot by Musk’s xAI.
This setting can only be disabled on the web version of X.
Here’s what you should know:
X user’s data is being used for AI training without explicit consent.
Default consent settings violate UK GDPR regulations.
ICO and DPC are investigating and demanding transparency from X.
Under GDPR, companies can’t use “pre-ticked boxes” for consent.
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and the Data Protection Commission (DPC) in Ireland are now investigating X’s practices.
Both regulators emphasise the need for transparency and easy opt-out options for users.
LLM, like Grok and ChatGPT, rely on massive data collections to function.
However, this data usage is controversial, with concerns from publishers, authors, and regulators, about potential copyright violations.
Nothing says 'transparency' like a pre-ticked box.

Don’t Miss - Intel’s upcoming mid-August patch aims to fix voltage issues causing 13th and 14th Gen Core CPUs to crash, but won’t repair already damaged processors. Affected CPUs need replacement, not just BIOS tweaks. Intel faces scrutiny for not halting sales or issuing recalls amid ongoing issues and validations.
