APPLE AI

Apple just launched the preview build of Apple Intelligence, a set of AI tools designed to make using iOS 18.1 more practical and user-friendly.

Available in the developer beta for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, these features aim to improve daily tasks and integrate AI throughout the iPhone operating system.

Siri has a fresh look, and your phone’s edges will glow to let you know Siri is listening.

It’s also better at understanding what you say, even if you pause or stumble over your words.

Siri can answer follow-up questions, and help troubleshoot Apple products.

Soon, Siri will be able to see what’s on your screen and use apps for you.

Apple Intelligence’s top features:

  • Siri features a glowing edge on your screen, indicating it’s actively listening.

  • Improved comprehension of natural speech, including pauses and hesitations.

  • New AI-generated summaries in Mail and Safari make email and web browsing more efficient.

  • Upgraded writing tools for proofreading and summarisation are particularly useful in the Notes app.

  • Advanced search in the Photos app using natural language queries.

Subtle changes, big impact

Apple’s AI focuses on features that make your life easier.

The Mail app now gives you quick summaries of emails, not just the first lines.

This makes it easier to see what emails are about and decide what to do with them.

In Safari, AI provides a short overview of web pages, so you can quickly tell if a page is worth reading.

The new Writing Tools offer AI help for proofreading and writing suggestions, especially handy in the Notes app.

You can also turn voice recordings into checklists or summaries.

In the Photos app, AI lets you search for pictures using natural language, so you can easily find a photo of your friend wearing glasses or all the meals you ate on your last trip.

Some features like image generation and ChatGPT integration aren’t available yet, but Apple plans to add these next year.

Instead of focusing on advanced tech, Apple is committed to making features that genuinely improve user experience.

Apple’s approach is about making everyday tasks easier.

As Apple continues to improve its AI capabilities, you can expect more useful updates.

GOOGLE

Google Chrome is getting a major AI upgrade with the new Google Lens feature, making your desktop searches even more powerful and interactive.

As part of a Chrome update, Google is introducing a button directly in the search box to activate Google Lens.

This allows users to search using both images and text without leaving the page they’re on.

How does it work?

By clicking the Google Lens icon, a sidebar will pop up with the same tab, allowing for “multisearch.”

That means you can search using both text and the images you find with the Lens - no need to open a new tab or navigate away from your current page.

While Google Lens was previously accessible via right-click or the three-dot menu, this update streamlines the process with a new icon and sidebar feature.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Multisearch with images and text from one place.

  • Quick use via a new Lens icon in the search bar.

  • AI Overviews are available in the sidebar for US users.

Also, Google is adding a smart AI feature that lets you search your Chrome history using natural language.

Imagine asking, “What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week” and instantly seeing the relevant links from your past searches.

This tool is set to roll out in the US and requires users to opt-in, using a cloud-based model for its initial phase.

Another addition is a Chrome feature that helps you compare products online while shopping, making it easier to find the best deals and options without leaving your browser.
