Durk Kingma, one of the co-founders of OpenAI, has announced he’s joining Anthropic.
In a series of posts on X, Kingma said that Anthropic’s approach to responsible AI development aligns with his own beliefs (shots fired?).
He’s looking forward to working with their talented team, which includes former colleagues from OpenAI and Google.
Kingma has a Ph.D. in machine learning and played a big role at OpenAI.
He led research on generative AI models like DALL-E and ChatGPT.
In 2018, he took a break to become an angel investor and advisor for AI startups but later rejoined Google Brain, which merged with DeepMind in 2023.
Here are the key bits:
Kingma is another big OpenAI name that’s crossed the aisle to Anthropic.
He led research on generative AI models like DALL-E and ChatGPT at OpenAI.
Anthropic has recently hired several top AI experts from OpenAI.
Anthropic has been attracting top talent, including Jan Leike and John Schulman from OpenAI.
Earlier this year, they also hired Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram, as their head of product.
Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei, was once OpenAI’s VP of research but left due to disagreements over OpenAI’s direction, especially its focus on commercial growth.
He started Anthropic with several ex-OpenAI employees, aiming to focus more on safe AI development.

Microsoft is introducing a new version of Copilot, designed to be a more personal AI assistant.
Mustafa Suleyman, the head of Microsoft AI, is leading this effort, describing it as a shift towards AI that helps people rather than replaces them.
Since joining earlier this year, Suleyman has shared his vision for AI becoming a companion that adjusts to individual needs.
The updated Copilot brings new Vision and Voice features, making the AI more personalised.
Suleyman explains that this is not about creating a fixed tool, but an evolving AI that supports users in everyday tasks like planning or managing information.
Here’s what he had to say:
Copilot adapts to each user's needs, providing tailored help and support.
Microsoft wants AI to strengthen human connections and improve well-being, not just solve problems.
Vision and Voice are the first steps towards a more interactive and adaptable AI.
Suleyman emphasises that this is just the start of a new chapter for AI.
Microsoft’s approach focuses on accountability, aiming to build trust by deploying AI in a way that enhances people’s lives, not diminishes them.
The company is committed to developing AI with care, ensuring it delivers real benefits while maintaining users' trust.

Don’t Miss - Epic is reducing the Unreal Engine royalty rate from 5% to 3.5% for games launched on the Epic Games Store starting January 1st, 2025. This applies to all platforms, but the games must be available on Epic's store at launch to qualify, incentivizing developers to list their games there.
