Amazon’s new Kindle AI reads with you
Amazon has added a new AI feature to the Kindle app called Ask This Book.
It lets readers ask questions about the story and gives spoiler-free answers based only on the pages already read.
You can open it from the book menu or by highlighting any line you’re curious about.
The answers can’t be copied or shared, and they’re only shown to people who own or have rented the book.
In brief:
Answers come only from the part of the book you’ve read.
Authors and publishers can’t opt out.
More devices and regions are planned, but with no confirmed timeline.
Always on, no off switch
The tool is always on, and authors and publishers can’t remove their books from it.
The feature is live in the US for thousands of English-language titles on iOS.
Amazon plans to bring it to Kindle devices and Android next year, but there’s no date yet for a wider global rollout.
It follows Amazon’s earlier AI Recaps tool, arriving shortly after the company pulled some inaccurate AI summaries from Prime Video.
Did that give me the idea of buying a new Kindle even though it’s not required? Yes. Yes, it did. - MG
