Amazon has just launched Nova Act, a new AI model built to handle everyday tasks like browsing, shopping, and answering questions based on what’s on your screen.

It’s currently in “research preview” and only available to developers, but it’s already being used in the upgraded Alexa Plus assistant.

Nova Act can follow specific instructions, like skipping add-ons during checkout, and even carry out tasks on a schedule.

This model comes from Amazon’s AGI Labs, which says it wants future AI agents to take on more complex jobs, such as planning events or managing IT workflows.

Nova Act is part of the Nova suite announced in late 2024, which includes text understanding tools, plus image and video generators.

Instead of chasing top-tier power, Amazon is focusing on speed and affordability, saying its models are at least 75% cheaper than the competition.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • Nova Act is designed to do tasks, not just respond.

  • Amazon is betting on practical, low-cost AI agents.

  • A new portal makes the Nova models easier to test and use.

To make things easier to access, Amazon has also launched a new website for developers in the US to try out Nova models directly.

Previously, access was limited to Amazon Bedrock, its cloud-based AI hub that also includes models from Meta, Anthropic, and others.
