AI TOOLS

Amazon just dropped AI book translations for free

Amazon has launched Kindle Translate, an AI tool that helps Kindle Direct Publishing authors translate their books.

It’s in beta and currently supports English–Spanish and German–English, with more languages planned.

Today, fewer than 5% of Amazon books are available in more than one language, so this could help authors reach new readers.

Authors can review translations before publishing, but those who don’t speak the target language may still need a human translator to check accuracy.

Quick notes

  • English–Spanish + German–English supported first

  • Authors can preview translations but accuracy may vary

  • Free to use and eligible for KDP programmes

“Kindle Translate” tag

Amazon says translations are automatically evaluated, though it hasn’t explained how.

Authors can manage languages, pricing, and publishing through the KDP dashboard. Readers will see a “Kindle Translate” label and can preview samples.

The service competes with other AI and open-source translation tools.

Some experts say AI still struggles with nuance in literature, but quality is improving. Kindle Translate is currently free and works with KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited.
