Altman: The Movie

OPENAI

Luca Guadagnino, the director behind Challengers and After the Hunt, has shifted gears.

With DC’s Sgt. Rock now off the table, he’s in talks to take on Artificial, a new film based on the real-life drama at OpenAI in 2023, when CEO Sam Altman was suddenly fired and then reinstated days later.

The project is moving quickly. Amazon MGM Studios is backing it, with producers David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford already on board.

The script comes from Simon Rich, who’s also producing, and Jennifer Fox is in talks to join the team too.

If all goes to plan, filming could kick off this summer across San Francisco and Italy.

Casting isn’t locked in yet, but names like Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro, and Yura Borisov are being floated.

Garfield is expected to play Altman, while Barbaro and Borisov would take on the roles of OpenAI’s Mira Murati and Ilya Sutskever, key players in the boardroom drama that played out in public view.

Quick bits to know:

  • Guadagnino may direct a film on the OpenAI leadership crisis.

  • Amazon plans to start filming Artificial this summer.

  • Andrew Garfield is reportedly lined up to play Sam Altman.

The Social Network 2.0

Artificial would be Guadagnino’s third project with Amazon MGM.

He’s already completed After the Hunt, out this October, and last year’s Challengers, starring Zendaya.

The AI girlies are finally getting their The Social Network moment.
