The practice of walking over a bed of hot coals is an ancient ritual used by various cultures to test an individual's strength and courage. Studies suggest the wood's poor heat conduction, along with the short contact time, prevent the walker's feet from burning. It’s still a no from me.

  • AI is taking over on Meta.

  • Katy Perry - what happened at the Met Gala?

META

Meta Platforms has announced an expansion of its AI-driven advertising tools.

These new features, set to roll out globally by the end of the year, will allow advertisers to automatically create varied images and add text overlays.

Initially, these tools will be tested without the watermarks usually applied to AI-generated images by Meta, highlighting a focus on safety.

John Hegeman, Meta's head of monetisation, mentioned that the company is still deciding on the best approach for ad labelling and will release guidelines before the tools are widely available.

Here’s what the updates include:

  • Meta is upgrading its AI tools to support the creation of diverse image ads and the integration of text.

  • The company is working on guidelines for how these ads will be labelled.

  • These developments aim to make ad processes more efficient while considering privacy and brand protection.

This initiative reflects a similar move by Google in February, which introduced enhanced AI advertising tools and new watermarking technology for added security.

Your advertisement, on Auto-Pilot

Meta's upcoming features will enable advertisers to upload images of their products and tweak them, such as changing their orientation or depicting them in different scenarios.

There will also be improvements in generating text for headlines and essential selling points.

Interestingly, they will not be available for use in sectors like politics.

This decision comes as some brands remain wary about how their uploaded images might be used, concerned about the potential misuse of their intellectual property.

Finally, giving our creative teams a chance to take a well-deserved nap.

AI WORKSHOPS

Neurons Lab is supporting scale-ups & enterprises to accelerate AI adoption with the GenAI Proof of Concept service.

If it’s clear that generative AI is already the next big thing, what’s not clear is exactly how companies can harness the technology in the most impactful and secure way.

This PoC service by Neurons Lab and AWS, is designed to identify and evaluate generative AI use cases tailored to your unique business needs and build a working Proof of Concept to validate assumptions and reduce risk for future investments in GenAI technology.

Participants leave with a clear roadmap for selecting and tuning LLMs, determining whether to train new models or use pre-existing ones, and a list of hosting options, such as Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock.

75-100% of the cost is funded by AWS.

Missed out on Ring and Nest? Don’t let RYSE slip away!

Ring 一 Acquired by Amazon for $1.2B

Nest 一 Acquired by Google for $3.2B

If you missed out on these spectacular early investments in the Smart Home space, here’s your chance to grab hold of the next one.

RYSE is a tech firm poised to dominate the Smart Shades market (growing at an astonishing 55% annually), and their public offering of shares priced at just $1.50 has opened.

They have generated over 20X growth in share price for early shareholders, with significant upside remaining as they just launched in over 100 Best Buy stores.

Retail distribution was the main driver behind the acquisitions of both Ring and Nest, and their exclusive deal with Best Buy puts them in pole position to dominate this burgeoning industry.

DEEPFAKES

This Monday, the Met Gala was abuzz with famous faces, including Zendaya and Chris Hemsworth.

Yet, Katy Perry became the talk of the town. Not for showing up - but for her striking absence filled by AI-generated images.

These online images showed Perry perfectly dressed for this year’s theme, "Garden of Time," based on a 1962 story by J.G. Ballard.

One AI photo placed her in a cream ball gown edged with moss—suitable but slightly off, as it showed a carpet in the wrong colour without any of the actual plants and white flowers present at the event.

Another image was more convincing, showing Perry in a corset top with a skirt made of greenery, matching the event’s green carpet accurately.

Despite looking real, these images were fake, even fooling Perry's own mum, who praised her daughter’s look in a text, prompting Perry to reveal the truth.

Here’s what happened

  • AI filled in for Katy Perry at the Met Gala, creating images that fit the event's theme.

  • The realistic nature of these images led to confusion, even tricking Perry’s mum, showing how AI can blur reality.

  • The ease with which AI creates lifelike images underscores the need for a careful review of digital content.

This highlights a growing challenge

Which is AI’s ability to craft convincing yet fictional images of public figures.

An expert in computer science pointed out that these images could subtly alter our perception of reality, emphasising the need for critical scrutiny of digital content.

By remaining aware and questioning, we can navigate the changing landscape of AI-generated content more safely.

Next year’s Met Gala will be AI attendance only, we presume.
