 👦🏼 ALMOST TWO-THIRDS OF YOUNG CREATIVES USING AI

A UK charity has discovered that almost two-thirds (63%) of creatives 18-24 are using AI to assist in their artistic endeavours.

Run by Youth Music, the poll found that AI is being used in various ways, including for music generation, marketing, and artwork.

The charity spoke to 2,829 people of all ages across Britain and identified that as well as the high number of young people using AI, people over 55 were sceptical of using assistive AI - with only 19% making use of the technology.

The contrast is really interesting but also quite predictable, young people are more likely to use new technology while older folk traditionally don’t like change. My mum still calls me a genius for changing to the right HDMI input for her.

AI music generation is a particularly controversial topic, with many musicians saying that AI removes the very soul of the music, and big music corporations keen to prevent their stars from being outshone by music created by software in minutes.

Minimalism.

Using the term “minimalism” in text-to-image generators produces some brilliant results and gets rid of whacky background content. Try it for images that really focus on the subject at hand.

♻️ AI MAKING RECYCLING BETTER

One of the biggest issues with recycling is that different materials - and even different types of plastics - have to be separated and treated differently. This means that cross-contamination can cause major headaches at the sorting facilities.

But guess what’s come to the rescue? Well, what else would it be, to be featured in Mindstream? AI of course!

The system is called Greyparrot and uses cameras placed above the incoming streams of waste to determine what’s in them. Machine learning has taught the AI to be able to identify the difference between a Coke bottle and a cardboard sleeve.

It’s hoped that in the future we can effectively separate all of our waste and massively increase the amount that’s recycled and cut the amount going to landfill.

Personally, I’d like to see AI help develop organic alternatives to toxic, indestructible, wildlife-destroying plastic, but maybe that’s coming soon. This is a step in the right direction.

Remember it’s REDUCE, REUSE and then, lastly, RECYCLE. The big companies want you to forget points 1 and 2 so you keep buying their plastic bottles.
