AI now helps you find shows, because your brain won’t

AI ENTERTAINMENT

Netflix is testing a new AI-powered search tool that lets you describe what you’re in the mood for in plain language, like “something funny and upbeat” or “a bit scary but not too scary, maybe with some dry humour.”

It’s built using OpenAI’s ChatGPT and aims to make finding something to watch a bit easier (talk about first-world problems…)

This week, the feature is coming out as an opt-in beta for iOS users.

According to Bloomberg, a few people in Australia and New Zealand already had early access.

Others are trying similar things.

Amazon’s Fire TV has voice-led AI search, and Tubi tested a ChatGPT-style tool too, though it later dropped it, likely due to low usage.

What to know:

  • New ChatGPT-style search lets you describe what you want to watch in everyday language.

  • Rolling out to iOS users as a beta, starting this week.

  • Tubi tried something similar, but it didn’t stick.

AI, but for indecisive people

Netflix also mentioned plans to use AI to update title cards in users’ preferred languages.

I will absolutely be typing “Small town comfort romance TV show”.
