🤖 MUSK REPEATS CALLS FOR AI REGULATION

Elon Musk has repeated calls for AI regulation at an event in Paris on Friday. The famous boss said of the tech:

There is a real danger for digital superintelligence having negative consequences” before later adding "I am in favour of AI regulation"

The good news for Elon is that the EU recently passed the world’s first draft regulation on AI, meaning he won’t have to wait much longer for his wish to come true.

Although Elon was one of the founders of OpenAI, he exited the business in 2018, believing they had fallen behind the big players like Google. Certainly an egg-on-face moment when ChatGPT exploded OpenAI into the stratosphere.

This might mean Elon wants regulation to slow down development, so he isn’t left behind in his other companies, like Tesla, which has an AI system. Hmm…

🐶 AI NOT YET AS SMART AS DOGS, SAYS META CHIEF

Current AI models are nowhere near close to being more intelligent than humans, and in fact are not even as smart as dogs, according to Meta’s chief of AI, Yann LeCun.

Although accepting that AI models can pass exams like the Bar, Yann said they could not load a dishwasher - which is something a child could learn to do in 10 minutes. He said:

“Most of human knowledge has nothing to do with language … so that part of the human experience is not captured by AI.”

Yann raises an interesting point about AI and its limitations. While AI is great at generating things in a human-like way, that’s not all humans do. Things that require thinking in a different way or interacting with objects might be many years away for AI.
