AI JOURNALISM
News Corp is diving into negotiations with AI companies to try and solve the copyright issues of training AI models on their news.
Robert Thomson, the big boss, says they’d rather talk it out than sue.
A compromise
Thomson's thinks AI companies should be paying to access this content.
News Corp is already deep into talks with the AI big shots.
They're hoping to set some rules that'll help journalists and keep the AI game fair.
Thomson gave special praise to OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, in his remarks.
Now, not all publishers are handling AI the same way.
It’s not all smooth sailing
The Guardian, on the other hand, has stopped OpenAI from using its content.
Some are making deals, like the Associated Press has with the ChatGPT creators.
Others, like The New York Times, are taking legal action for a piece of the pie.
News Corp's got its eyes on the future.
They see AI-produced content as inevitable and don’t want to miss out
AND, they're making serious money from digital streaming now, shifting away from the old print days.
In the last quarter of 2023, News Corp's revenue increased by 3%, hitting $2.6 billion.
Thomson is feeling optimistic about the shift to digital and subscription models.
Our View:
The end game is money - all the media companies will fold when a big enough pie is presented to them.

AI BREAKTHROUGH
Huawei’s Noah’s Ark Lab in Paris has some groundbreaking ideas about"embodied artificial intelligence" (E-AI).
They think it could be the next big step towards creating artificial general intelligence (AGI), you know, the kind of AI that can handle any task you throw at it.
Now, AGI has been the holy grail for a while. They’re creating AI that thinks like a human – now THAT’S pretty ambitious stuff!
Companies like OpenAI have been all about this, pouring their energy into making it happen.
So, here's the deal: Remember those super-sized language models, like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini?
Well, the Huawei team thinks they're missing something crucial – real-world experience.
These models are huge, but they're kind of like brains in a jar.
They need to get out there and experience the world firsthand.
That's where embodied AI comes in.
They want to give AI the ability to see, hear, and interact with the world just like we do.
The Huawei team says AI needs eyes and ears of its own to truly understand what's going on.
They're talking about perception – AI being able to take in information from the real world and process it on its own.
And it's not just about seeing and hearing; it's about learning from actions, too.
Like when you touch something hot and learn not to do it again, AI needs that kind of learning experience.
Now, the Huawei researchers have a plan. They've laid out a framework for how we could get there, eventually.
But, there are some big hurdles to jump.
These super-smart AI models we have now? They live in the cloud, not out in the world.
So, getting them to embody AI? That's going to take some serious tech wizardry.

The first step towards our robot servants!
