APPLE

Apple has set the date for its next big event, where it will unveil the AI-focused iPhone 16.

On Monday, September 9th, apple will host an event titled “It’s Glowtime” at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park.

The event will be streamed online, though the meaning of “glowtime” is still unclear.

The new iPhone is expected to feature significant AI updates.

In June, at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple introduced Gen AI features under "Apple Intelligence," including AI-generated Genmoji and a smarter Siri (finally) to manage your schedule, emails, and flight details.

While some features may be available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 is expected to be the first designed with AI at its core.

Apple is hoping that AI features will drive a significant number of people to upgrade their phones this cycle - but whether they will remains to be seen.

What you should know:

  • iPhone 16 could be the first fully AI-integrated iPhone.

  • Apple’s partnership with OpenAI may boost Siri’s capabilities.

  • The impact on pricing and market reception is still uncertain.

Siri’s probably going to steal the show

Apple also announced a collaboration with OpenAI, during the conference.

This move fits with Apple’s gradual integration of AI into its devices, like Live Text and improved autocorrect.

The upcoming AI upgrades could further personalise and enhance user interactions.

However, analyst Angelo Zino from CFRA Research suggests that the iPhone 16 might not be revolutionary.

He predicts a gradual rollout of AI features, with some, like upgraded Siri, possibly delayed until 2025.

Gen AI, which creates text, images, and audio based on user prompts (you knew that), is expected to be a key feature in the new iPhone.

An upgraded Siri, possibly combined with OpenAI’s latest model, could offer better recall, personalised responses, and a deeper understanding of user preferences.

Don’t forget your bingo card - “best iPhone ever”.

LAW

Legal work is notoriously time-consuming, often involving sifting through vast amounts of data.

This is driving many law firms to use AI tools, with 35% already integrating them, according to a 2023 survey by the American Bar Association.

Supio, a new AI platform for personal injury law, has just raised $25M to enhance its capabilities.

Founded by Jerry Zhou and Kyle Lam, Supio uses generative AI to automate data collection, summarisation, and organisation, making it easier for legal teams to draft and present cases.

The platform's ability to handle complex legal documents sets it apart from competitors.

The scoop:

  • 35% of law firms use AI tools, reflecting a growing trend.

  • Automates data processing and case preparation in personal injury law.

  • Data security and the risk of AI-generated inaccuracies remain concerns.

Giving them a bionic hand

As seen in previous cases, data security issues and the risk of AI-generated errors are also issues.

However, Zhou insists that Supio delivers high accuracy and reliability, with no “hallucinations” or fabricated data. We’ll see about that.

Supio is already working with 30 law firms, aiming to reach 100 by year’s end, with over $1 million in recurring revenue.

Do they train it by making it watch Suits? That’s how lawyering works, right?
