There has been a huge explosion in advertisements for “AI girlfriends” and similar services on social media recently, leading to concerns about how the platforms will manage the content.

This is new terrority for tech companies, which have previously clamped down hard on the vast majority of sexual content, including banning it in all advertisements.

Meta said in a statement that its ban on adult content applies equally to human-made and AI-generated content. But as of right now, adverts are everywhere promoting NSFW AI content, including chatbots, “girlfriends” and imagery.

NBC News found 35 app developers running sexually explicit ads on apps owned by Meta. The app developers were running more than 1,000 ads in all, many of them easily discoverable and viewable on Meta’s online library of ads, which can be accessed.

I see another game of cat and mouse coming here. Annoying AI ads are probably going to be the hot new popup ad.

Colleges are fighting a hard battle against admission essays written by AI. What was once a chance to sample Students’ writing capabilities alongside learning about potential candidates, but now AI threatens to throw all of that up in the air.

Students are, of course, utilising AI to boost their applications in the hope that it will improve their chances.

The issue is, is that if every student does that, there is no advantage to be had, and also, the purpose of the admission essay - learning about a student’s capabilities and interests - is lost along the way.

Rick Clark, the executive director of undergraduate admission at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and his staff spent weeks this summer pretending to be high school students using A.I. chatbots to fill out college applications.

By taking on personas, he and his team are hoping to learn how ChatGPT alters admission essays, to be able to get a feel for how AI is changing the essays.

Will schools start using AI experts to help assess applications?
