The MI5 is using AI to find terrorists! The new system is being piloted by the security agency by using AI to assess who is likely to become radicalised, based on the videos they watch.
The organisation’s experts have deployed AI and machine learning tools that can sift through videos being watched by terrorist suspects to see what level of risk individuals pose to society.
It will allow computer programmes to do the work once carried out by hundreds of spies. That’s a huge time-saving. James Bond has never had more downtime.
He’s got time for plenty more of these now, thanks to AI
They have also introduced an AI speech-to-text system which can quickly transcribe phone calls and similar, again freeing up time and effort for the secret intelligence workers.
Colonel Richard Kemp, a counter-terrorism expert, said the move will help save lives:
“AI will give our intelligence services a vital step forward in identifying and assessing threats at home and abroad and this will help them save lives.”

US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman Gary Gensler has announced a shift in focus from cryptocurrency to AI.
Gensler, who has been vocal about the risks and challenges posed by the cryptocurrency industry, now believes that AI is the technology that “warrants the hype” and deserves greater attention from regulators. He’s gone as far as writing up provisional regulations for AI in the financial industry.
One of Gensler’s key concerns is the potential use of AI to obscure responsibility and accountability when things go wrong. Coordinating AI models among major trading houses could lead to increased market volatility and instability, and our current laws and legal systems just don’t have the tools or understanding to deal with that.
So, in other words, the SEC wants to start slapping big regulations on AI. This could be a roadblock to AI innovation.
