JOB MARKET
Alorica, a company based in California, has introduced an AI tool that lets its representatives communicate in 200 languages and 75 dialects.
A Spanish-speaking rep can now assist a Cantonese speaker without knowing the language.
While some fear AI might cut jobs, Alorica isn’t reducing staff - in fact, they’re still hiring.
Here’s the gist:
AI tools have been shown to improve efficiency, making workers more productive.
AI may eliminate certain roles but also create new opportunities, echoing previous technological advances.
Companies like Alorica continue to hire, focusing on those who can adapt to new technology.
Efficiency, efficiency, efficiency
AI, from early computer programs to ChatGPT, has raised concerns about job losses.
However, the widespread replacement of service workers hasn’t happened. History shows that technology generally boosts productivity and creates new jobs.
Even as some companies use AI to reduce staff, others, like IKEA, retrain workers for more complex tasks.
For example, customer support agents using AI at Alorica reduced call handling time and managed more calls per day.
Alorica’s AI tool also allows reps to handle calls in any language without needing to hire new staff.
Despite adopting AI, Alorica continues to seek tech-savvy hires.
Relax. You’re not getting fired anytime soon.
