🖼️ JUDGE SAYS AI ART CAN’T BE COPYRIGHTED
In what could be a huge ruling for AI in the states, A federal judge on Friday upheld a finding from the U.S. Copyright Office that a piece of art created by AI is not open to protection.
In other words, you cannot copyright AI-generated art. The connotations of this ruling are pretty huge.
Remember how companies like Netflix and Disney are investing loads in AI all of a sudden? Well, imagine if all that new content can’t be copyrighted. Talk about a bubble burst!

Big corps when they release they can’t profit from AI
The judge said, “Human authorship is a bedrock requirement.” Sorry AI.
In a similar ruling, it was judged that a Monkey did not hold the copyright for a photo it took. Copyright does not apply to non-humans, ruled the judge.
So, where is this going to leave the AI gold rush? If this ruling is replicated elsewhere, the breaks could be slammed on.
It’s great news for the Hollywood actors on strike - they might be safe after all.

🤔 AI IMAGE OR REAL
Every Saturday we get you to vote on an image and guess whether it’s a real photo or an AI-generated image.

Awesome comparison with the past, or simple AI trickery?

📈 RETAIL COULD SEE HUGE BOOST FROM AI
Artificial Intelligence could boost retail, as AI will enable a better customer service experience as well as many other optimisations, in turn boosting profits.
Giving big retailers the tools to optimise everything from their supply chains to their workforce, AI could be the answer for the next level of growth.
Custom chatbots will soon be the norm, and AI also allows a more personalised shopping experience, with tools like suggested products that actually make sense (ever been suggested a baby monitor when you’re buying a pair of jeans? No more of that.)
“We’re taking large language models developed by our partners and by the broader tech community and adding retail context to create models that are uniquely suited to the needs of our customers, our associates and our supply chain,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said to investors.
So, Walmart goes AI.
