OPENAI
OpenAI has launched Projects in ChatGPT, a new feature to help users organise their files and conversations.
Similar to Google’s NotebookLM, it allows users to keep everything in one place, making it easier to manage tasks.
At the moment, Projects is available for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Teams subscribers. Enterprise and Edu users will get access in January.
It works on the ChatGPT website and Windows desktop app. Mobile and MacOS users can only view projects but can’t create or edit them yet.
In brief:
Projects let users organise files and chats into folders, making things easier to manage.
Users can customise projects with colours and specific instructions.
OpenAI plans to add more file types, Google Drive/OneDrive links, and model toggling in 2024.
Adulting done right
With Projects, users can upload files, link them to conversations, and even add instructions for ChatGPT.
For example, a project manager could set up a project for building a website, upload relevant files, and tell ChatGPT to prioritise using its Canvas tool for coding.
Existing chats can also be moved into a project and used as references.
Unlike NotebookLM, which focuses on research and includes features like audio narration, Projects integrates other ChatGPT tools, such as Voice Mode, web search, and Canvas for creating or editing content.
OpenAI is focusing on keeping users within ChatGPT for all their tasks.
Features like Canvas, launched earlier this year, and Projects show how OpenAI is aiming to provide an all-in-one workspace.
While NotebookLM operates as a standalone tool separate from Google’s other products, Projects keeps everything in one place, supporting OpenAI’s goal of creating a central hub for productivity.
By adding tools that simplify workflows and improve organisation, OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT as a key productivity platform with smarter, integrated features.
