Comedian George Carlin back from the dead with AI

Comedian George Carlin, who died in 2008, has been “revived” by AI in a new hour-long special that was released on YouTube.

Unsurprisingly, it has ignited a fierce debate.

What is the special?

Entitled “I’m glad I’m dead” AI “comedian” dudesy replicated Carlin’s voice, style and material to produce an hour-long highly convincing special, targeting modern society and things that happened long after the real Carlin had died.

Honestly - some of the material is pretty good, and it really does pass as George Carlin - 15 years after he passed away.

However, it isn’t George Carlin. It’s AI - so how can it be labelled as George Carlin and use his voice?

Admittedly, the video does have a disclaimer at the start - but is that enough?

The backlash

The comedian’s daughter responded on X (Twitter), and she was not at all happy with the “special”

Others echoed the sentiment - claiming it was wrong without the permission of the family. We have entered the grey area of AI - was this a step too far?

Our View:

It’s an impressive showing of AI, but you shouldn’t be able to use someone’s voice and name without permission.

Microsoft launches Copilot Pro

Microsoft is moving forward with its AI offering by launching Copilot Pro, offering more advanced AI features for those who want them.

The subscription will be $20 and open up new possibilities, with a Copilot app now live for everyone on iOS and Android.

What do you get?

Users get access to the latest ChatGPT releases, as well as access to Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps and other new features - bringing AI to the entire Microsoft suite.

Microsoft has also launched Copilot GPTs… and they work in the exact same way as OpenAI GPTs.

You can create and share your own version of the bots. Remember, this is all running on ChatGPT behind the scenes, meaning it’s essentially ChatGPT in different wrapping paper.
