Every 'c' in Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently. Seriously - think about it.

TODAY:

  • Gamma is making PowerPoint go extinct.

  • AI might steal your voice and make money out of it!

  • Around the web: The platform formerly known as Twitter now officially redirects to Elon Musk’s X.com (finally).

POWERPOINT

If you think of slideshow presentations, you inevitably think of long hours lost to those white-background PowerPoint slides. So dominant is Microsoft’s slide-maker, that many don’t even know that alternatives exist.

Enter Gamma. An AI-powered slideshow maker that’s taking on Microsoft - and winning!

Gamma has been rapidly gaining traction as the answer to slideshow woes, and one of the standout AI tools that has emerged since the AI boom took hold. Now clocking over 10 million users, it’s fair to say that Microsoft should be worried!

Gamma has a simple premise - presenting your ideas beautifully. You no longer need to be a graphic designer to create stunning visuals. At its heart, it’s powered by a leading AI that can create slideshows, websites and documents in just seconds.

Onboarding to help you leave old tools behind

The team at Gamma needed to make onboarding simple if they had any chance at winning people over from old-school office-suite tools.

That’s why the platform was designed with seamless onboarding in mind. Once you sign up, the platform will guide you step-by-step through setting up your first presentation - you’ll be surprised at how easy it is, too. With a powerful AI behind the scenes, your ideas come to life almost immediately.

How fast is it really?

Of course, we had to put it to the test. So, we signed up to Gamma and set it the task of generating a presentation about why Mindstream is the best AI newsletter (aren’t we humble).

After typing in the prompt above and picking a theme, Gamma generated an entire slideshow in under a minute - and it looks great.

While it’s not what you would take straight into your next board meeting, it was an excellent jumping-off point - and saved us probably 45 minutes compared to if we tried to create this in PowerPoint.

You can generate AI images too - and you can pick the image model you want to use. We went with trusty DALL-E for the image on the opening slide, but the key here is the high level of customisation available at your fingertips.

There’s an AI assistant on hand to help you edit any part of the presentation - making refinements easy.

While we are used to chatbots generating text in response to our queries, Gamma’s AI will create text, images, design elements, formatting and more - all designed to match your input. It really brings the concept in your head to life from just a prompt.

The future of presentations?

Is Gamma the future of presentations? It could very well be. Let’s hope it will at least be the end of boring black-on-white knocked-up-at-the-last-minute presentations we’ve all seen a hundred times.

What used to take a real eye for design can now be achieved with AI. This unlocks an incredible amount of potential. Suddenly, anybody can present their ideas beautifully, and how they envisioned. This is incredibly powerful.

Try Gamma for yourself

The best part about Gamma? There’s a fully free tier, so you can get to grips without it without the ticking clock of a free trial.

DEEPFAKES

Paul Skye Lehrman and Linnea Sage, a married couple of voice actors from Manhattan, are suing Berkeley-based start-up Lovo.

They claim the company used recordings of their voices without permission to create AI-generated voice clones.

This issue came to their attention when they heard Lehrman's voice on a podcast discussing the risks of AI to the entertainment industry.

The couple allege that in 2019 and 2020, Lovo paid them for voice clips without revealing their true intent.

Lehrman and Sage say Lovo violated trademark and privacy laws by using their voices in AI technologies.

They are seeking class-action status to involve other voice actors in their lawsuit.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • Lehrman and Sage are suing Lovo for using their voices without permission.

  • The couple was paid for recordings under false pretences.

  • Lovo claims it obtained consent, while the couple seeks to protect voice actors' rights.

Your voice, their gain

Lovo denies the allegations, stating all voice recordings were obtained with consent.

However, the couple's lawyer argues that the rights to their voices were not properly managed.

This lawsuit could set a precedent for protecting voice actors in the face of advancing AI technologies.

Looks like the only thing more terrifying than creepy AI is the idea of someone else using your voice to shill bad mattresses on late-night TV. Shudder.

Don’t Miss - The social network previously known as Twitter has officially moved to X.com, Elon Musk's preferred domain. Now, entering twitter.com in your browser should redirect to X.com, although results may vary based on the browser and user login status. This domain change is part of the broader rebranding effort under Musk, including mobile apps and subscription services. Despite these updates, the transition has been complex and inconsistent, occasionally complicating security with increased risks of phishing attacks.
