💰 Perplexity AI gets $75M!

+ AI wants to stop trains 😆

Monday is here again! We’re back with a brand-new rap.

Perplexity AI is the next big thing… and AI is trying to cancel trains forever… sort of.

Here is what you need to know about AI today.

Read time: 4 minutes

Perplexity is shaping up to take on ChatGPT, after raising another $75M in its latest fundraiser.

The firm is now valued at $500M, and intends to revolutionise the way we search for information.

Investors in the company include Jeff Bezos and AI kings Nvidia.

What’s it all about?

Perplexity is different to ChatGPT, Bard or Claude by accessing multiple models. It will switch between them to get the most appropriate answer.

They also have an experimental model of their own.

Pro users can pay $20 for access to all models and image generation - sound familiar people?

Perplexity’s main goal is to transform the search experience with AI.

Before AI, users searched and then use their own decision-making to come to a conclusion.

With AI-powered search, this step is removed. And this comes with a big problem. AI is deciding what sources are valid and not - meaning it is open to manipulation.

Perplexity aims to solve this issue and make AI search more transparent. It does this by allowing users to choose where they source their information from, including the option to only include peer-reviewed sources in the results.

Can Perplexity break into the search market? It remains to be seen - but the company looks like it’s got a big future either way.

OUR VIEW:

I don’t think people will ever agree to pay for a search engine - but the technology has undeniable potential.

In the competitive landscape of software business, optimizing processes and leveraging efficiencies can make a significant difference in building a strong pipeline and closing revenue faster.

💡AI-NSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

Dreams are the seeds of change. Nurture them and watch them grow.

Your daily pearl of wisdom from ChatGPT.

Scientists were expecting a breakthrough when they asked a powerful LLM to help them create the most well-optimised train schedule imaginable, minimising train crashes as much as possible.

What did the AI suggest?

It was simple: Just stop running the trains!

AI’s solution? Just cancel trains!

Unexpected results with AI

The results highlight something critical: AI can attempt to answer as faithfully as it can - but the results can still be unexpected, according to Professor Woolbridge of Oxford University.

He believes that we should focus on the positives and benefits of AI, arguing that machine learning will usher in a new technological era and ultimately do more good than harm.

“And I think fear of AI is a manifestation of that primal human fear. There is a misconception that it is a mind and it is contemplating what to say next.”

OUR VIEW:

Someone just needs to make a 2.0 version that says the trains must move…
