😮 OPENAI’S CRAZY COPYRIGHT RESPONSE

OpenAI has officially responded to growing criticism over copyright. The UK’s communications and digital select committee is probing them… and their official response is…

“We know we break copyright laws, but we have to!”

“Impossible” not to breach copyright

OpenAI is saying it is “impossible” to create something like ChatGPT without infringing copyright.

Have you ever seen such a ballsy defence as that?

In a written submission to the House of Lords, OpenAI made the claim it simply couldn’t create such tools without copyrighted material.

What did they say exactly?

Here’s the key part of their submission:

“Because copyright today covers virtually every sort of human expression – including blog posts, photographs, forum posts, scraps of software code, and government documents – it would be impossible to train today’s leading AI models without using copyrighted materials”

It looks like OpenAI has made the decision to try and change the very nature of copyright laws, rather than defend themselves by saying they did not breach them.
